The thyroid function blood collection kit contains everything you need to collect blood and send it to our laboratory for analysis. Inside, you'll find lancets, instructions, lab request form, labels, tube, tube pouch, prepaid UN3373 envelope, tube holder, swabs, alcohol wipes, and plasters. No need to go to the post office; simply drop off your sample in the nearest red letterbox.
Thyroid disorders can cause weight fluctuations, sleep difficulties and sensitivity to heat or cold. Parameters tested are:
- Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH): TSH is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Increased levels of TSH can be related to primary hypothyroidism (thyroid dysfunction). Decreased levels of TSH can be related to secondary hypothyroidism (pituitary or hypothalamus dysfunction).
- Free T4: Free thyroxine (FT4) is a thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism and energy levels in the body. Free T4 refers to the portion of T4 that is not bound to proteins in the blood and is available for use by cells. Increased levels of free T4 (FT4) may be an indicator of hypothyroid states, pituitary insufficiency or iodine insufficiency.
- Free T3: Free triiodothyronine (T3) is another thyroid hormone that plays a key role in regulating metabolism, growth, and energy production. Like free T4, free T3 refers to the unbound, active form of T3 that is available for cellular use. Free T3 levels provide insight into thyroid function and metabolism.
These thyroid function tests help evaluate thyroid health, diagnose thyroid disorders and monitor the effectiveness of treatment. They provide valuable information about thyroid hormone levels, autoimmune activity and thyroid gland function.
