Clinical-Grade Quantitative Bowel Screening
The qFIT (Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test) is a highly sensitive screening tool used to quantitatively detect hidden (occult) blood, FOB, in the stool .
When it comes to gastrointestinal health, having a precise understanding of your body is critical. Our laboratory Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (qFIT) is an advanced diagnostic test designed to detect hidden (occult) human blood in stool samples (also known as faecal occult blood or FOB). This can be an early indicator of polyps or bowel cancer. We achieve this using a state-of-the-art, fully automated clinical chemistry analyser. Engineered for operational excellence, this system utilises discrete cell technology and low-volume reaction disposable cuvettes. This advanced engineering allows for highly precise, contamination-free photometric and immunological analysis, ensuring the highest level of accuracy for every sample.
Unlike basic home testing kits, our laboratory service provides a highly accurate, numerical value of faecal haemoglobin, giving you and your healthcare provider the exact data needed to make informed clinical decisions.
The Lab Advantage: Why the "Number" Matters
Many over-the-counter bowel health tests use a simple lateral flow cartridge, similar to a standard pregnancy test. While convenient, these qualitative tests only provide a visual line to indicate a "Yes" or "No" result based on a pre-set threshold.
Our lab-based qFIT is quantitative. It doesn't just tell you if blood is present; it tells you exactly how much blood is present.
Lab qFIT vs. Standard Home Cartridge:
· The Home Cartridge (Qualitative): Relies on the naked eye to read a coloured line. It cannot differentiate between a minor bleed (e.g., from a small haemorrhoid) and a highly elevated level of blood. If the blood concentration falls just below the test's visual threshold, it will show as negative, potentially missing a vital warning sign.
· The Lab Test (Quantitative): Uses highly calibrated, automated laboratory analysers to measure the exact concentration of human haemoglobin down to the microgram (µg/g). This numerical value removes all visual guesswork and subjectivity.
Clinical Precision and NICE Guidelines
Seeing a specific number provides vital context for your clinical care. A numerical baseline allows doctors to monitor changes over time, gauge the potential severity of gastrointestinal bleeding, and apply strict medical guidelines to your results.
Specifically, under appropriate clinical scenarios, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE, 2023, DG56) defines a faecal haemoglobin level greater than or equal to 10 µg/g as suspicious and requiring further assessment. A lab-analysed qFIT is the only way to accurately measure your sample against this precise clinical threshold.
Designed for Reliable Postal Transit
Our qFIT lab collection kits are engineered specifically for postal transit. The specialised collection tube contains a proprietary liquid buffer that immediately suspends and stabilises your sample. This ensures the haemoglobin is protected from degradation while travelling through the post .
