Your liver performs over 500 functions daily, filtering toxins, producing proteins, and regulating metabolism. Yet liver damage rarely causes obvious symptoms until it is already advanced. This home blood test measures seven key liver biomarkers, giving you a clear, quantitative picture of your liver health from a CQC-regulated UK laboratory.
What is tested:
- ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase): the most sensitive marker of liver cell damage and inflammation. Elevated levels are strongly associated with fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver damage, and hepatitis.
- AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase): an enzyme found in liver and muscle cells. Elevated AST alongside ALT suggests liver stress or damage.
- GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase): particularly sensitive to alcohol consumption and bile duct problems. Often the first marker to rise with regular alcohol use.
- Total Bilirubin: a yellow pigment produced when red blood cells break down. High levels can indicate liver dysfunction and may cause jaundice.
- Albumin: a protein produced by the liver. Low levels indicate impaired liver function or poor protein synthesis.
- Total Protein: measures the overall protein content of your blood, including albumin and globulins. Abnormal levels can indicate liver or kidney dysfunction.
- Globulin: a calculated value (Total Protein minus Albumin) that reflects immune function and liver protein production. Abnormal levels may indicate inflammation, infection, or liver disease.
Who this test is for:
- Anyone experiencing unexplained fatigue, abdominal discomfort, or yellowing of the skin or eyes
- Individuals taking long-term medications that can affect the liver
- People managing conditions such as fatty liver disease, hepatitis, or diabetes
- Those interested in fitness and training who want to monitor liver stress from supplements or intense exercise
