Preparing for your Vitamin B12 Blood Test
- Take this test only after any symptoms of short-term illness have fully resolved.
- Avoid taking biotin supplements for at least 72 hours before the test. If biotin is prescribed, consult your doctor before discontinuing it.
- Do not collect your sample within 24 hours of taking any vitamin or mineral supplements.
- Avoid taking vitamin B12 supplements for two weeks prior to the test. If your B12 is prescribed, speak with your doctor about whether it should be paused.
- Drink plenty of water, around two to three full glasses, 1 to 2 hours before your test to stay well hydrated for better blood flow.
- While fasting isn’t required, try to avoid fatty foods for at least eight hours beforehand.
- Avoid coffee, tea, or energy drinks; stick to water only.
Please note that following the instructions step by step is crucial, as not following them may lead to sample rejection.
