Preparing for your Male Hormone Blood Test
Test Time: Take the test between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., ideally while fasting (no food after 10 p.m. the night before; water only).
Testosterone levels are highest in the morning and drop throughout the day, but this daily pattern can be disrupted by irregular sleep or shift work. This may reduce the morning peak without affecting overall testosterone levels.
Biotin Users: Stop taking biotin supplements at least 72 hours before the test, as biotin can interfere with hormone test results and lead to inaccurate readings.
Are You Using Testosterone Gel?
Any residue on your fingers can cause falsely high results.
- Do not use the same hand for the finger-prick test that you use to apply the gel.
- Take the test on a day you have not applied the gel.
- Shower beforehand and use freshly washed towels and clothes to avoid any contact with residual gel.
Even small amounts of leftover gel can contaminate the sample and lead to inaccurate results.
Please note that following the instructions step by step is crucial, as not following them may lead to sample rejection.
